Marketing – Everybody Can Do It

Marketing Is As Easy As 1, 2, 3!

One of my biggest pet peeve’s with marketing is that everybody thinks they can do it. They aren’t wrong, most people can. On the surface marketing is a basic theory: get your brand/product in front of people so they will do whatever your call to action is.

This might be as simple as hand-writing a sign and sticking it in your front lawn. Or creating a world wide marketing plan to launch a new product. Whatever it is, there’s still a right and a wrong way to go about it.

Let’s make an example of why everybody can’t do marketing. I’ve seen it time and time again where a large business could be twice the size but they have bad marketing. This usually is because it’s the owners wife or child or some sales guy that’s handling marketing. They can’t do the same job as a true professional.

Back to my example – painting a picture. I’m not an artist. Hand me a brush and tell me to paint a picture of somebody and it won’t look much better than a grade school kid’s picture. In the hand of an artist that’s spent years training, practicing and going to school you’ll have a picture that looks as good as the real picture.

Everybody can market, just like how everybody can paint a picture. But how well it’s done depends on the person on the end of the brush. Which would you rather have promoting your business, the kid with a paint brush or a trained professional?
